SESSIONS

Every season
of family life,
documented.

Three session types to record every chapter of your love.

01

Newborn Photography

The first two weeks happen once. There is nothing like them — the smallness, the stillness, the way time seems to slow and speed up at once.

Sessions can take place in a light filled studio in Brooklyn or the comfort of your home.

We don't need props or backdrops or anything other than what's already there — which is everything.

"The photos are better than we could have ever asked for- she captured every detail of our little man, and snapped some unforgettable family moments. I cannot recommend Farah enough!"

— KELLIE V., UPPER WEST SIDE, NYC · NEWBORN SESSION

02

Maternity Photography

Pregnancy is extraordinary and ordinary at once — a chapter that deserves to be documented with the same care and attention you're already giving it.

We can work in your home, in the neighborhoods you love, or at locations in the city that feel meaningful to you. The goal is a portrait that looks like you at your most yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Maison Mancel’s photography style?

Maison Mancel is known for its understated, lifestyle photography in New York City.

The lifestyle element is rooted in quiet observation — noticing rather than orchestrating. Rather than relying on stiff posing or artificial lighting, my approach is grounded in honesty and natural light. Sessions are gently guided, allowing authentic connection to unfold without interruption.

I look for the cinematic stills of everyday life — the way your child reaches for your hand, the softness of light in your nursery, the unscripted rhythm of your home.

The result is imagery that feels timeless, artful, and unmistakably personal — photographs your children will one day return to as a record of being deeply loved.

What makes Maison Mancel different from other photographers?

Maison Mancel is built on restraint. My focus is on light, composition, and connection.

My work is guided rather than staged. I create space for genuine emotion, resulting in photographs that feel honest, elevated, and enduring.

If you are drawn to editorial yet intimate family photography in NYC, this work was created with you in mind.

  • How long is a photography session with Maison Mancel?

Most family, maternity and motherhood sessions are sixty minutes. If time and space permits, we can sometimes go up to 1.5 hours at no extra charge.

Newborn sessions are two hours long to allow time for feeding, soothing and comfort breaks. The pace is calm and baby-led.

My sessions are intentionally unhurried to allow space for natural connection, movement, and emotion.

    When are sessions available?

A limited number of sessions are made available each month and are held on weekdays only.

What are the best locations for an outdoor family photography session in NYC?

New York City offers a beautiful mix of architecture and greenery, making it ideal for outdoor family photography in NYC.

As an NYC family photographer, I help you choose a location that reflects your family’s style — whether natural and garden-inspired or classic and architectural.

For greenery and soft, natural light, many families choose:

    • Central Park (including Conservatory Garden)

    • Brooklyn Bridge Park

    • Prospect Park

    • Brooklyn Botanic Garden

For a timeless NYC backdrop, I also photograph in:

    • Brooklyn Heights

    • Cobble Hill

    • Carroll Gardens

    • DUMBO

    • TriBeCa

    • Upper East Side

    • West Village

During our planning process, I guide you based on light and season and your children’s ages to ensure your session feels effortless and cohesive.

What is included in my gallery?

Following our session, you will receive a private, online gallery.

This contains your curated collection of hand-edited, high-resolution images. Galleries are typically 50 - 100 photographs and photographs are edited in both color and black & white.

These are your "digital negatives" — giving you the freedom to keep, share, and preserve them forever.

While I do not produce physical heirlooms myself, your gallery is directly integrated with a professional-grade print lab. This allows you to easily order museum-quality prints and albums directly from your archive, ensuring the screen-to-paper transition is seamless and sophisticated.

  • What should we wear?

The most important rule: wear something that feels like you — simply refined.

The goal is not to look styled. It is to look intentional.

Maison Mancel imagery is built on softness, light, and restraint. Clothing should support that — not compete with it.

    What photographs beautifully:

    • Neutral tones (cream, ivory, soft gray, muted brown, olives, charcoal, faded black)

    • Natural fabrics (linen, cotton, silk, fine knits)

    • Subtle textures and structures

    • Movement (flowing, relaxed silhouettes)

    What to avoid:

    • Large logos or graphics

    • Neon or highly saturated colors

    • Busy patterns

    • Heavy layering that distracts from connection

For mothers especially: silhouettes that allow ease of movement photograph far more beautifully than anything overly fitted or restrictive.

For newborn sessions, I provide blankets and a small collection of newborn clothing designed to complement the aesthetic of the work.

Do you provide wardrobe or hair and makeup?

Wardrobe, hair, and makeup are not provided.

Instead, I offer thoughtful guidance prior to your session — including palette suggestions and outfit feedback — to ensure everything feels cohesive and timeless.

The intention is not transformation. It is refinement.

How do we look natural on camera?

You do not need to perform.

You do not need to “smile perfectly.”

You only need to be present with the people you love most in this world.

Sessions are gently directed to create natural movement — walking, holding, adjusting, resting — allowing authentic expressions to emerge organically.

The beauty is often in the in-between moments.
